United fall to New England 2-3 in U.S. Open Cup play in match
In front of a "home crowd" at the Maryland SoccerPlex, D.C. United was unable to keep alive it's streak of playing in the U.S. Open Cup. United has played in every U.S. Open Cup since 2002 a tournament the Black and Red have won twice.
“I think we certainly showed more than [the Revolution] did in the first 50 to 60 minutes,” DC head coach Ben Olsen said Tuesday night. “It wasn’t great, I don’t think either team was great, but we certainly had the ball. We just didn’t simplify things and move the ball side-to-side and just find the open man.”
Ben Olsen must surely be starting to worry about Uniteds' back line following the last two losses.
“I think in the second half we played very good,” he said postgame. “We scored two goals and found our game. A lot of games we have problems in defense – they scored so easy against us – we must be more stronger in defense.”
One good sign for D.C. United is a possible return to the defense by defender Jed Zayner.
“[My] body feels great — just a little rusty with the feet, the movement,” he said. “Feeling pretty fit and ready to go 90 minutes. It’s all up to Ben [Olsen].”

Davies Does it North of the Border!
In what has become a weekly event, Charlie Davies has simply scored another goal. This time Davies takes advantage of a rebound from a Josh Wolff shot and scores his 5th goal of the season for Olsens Army.
The goals have not all been beautiful but they count non the less and have helped D.C. United remain competetive as United is currently in 5th place in the Eastern conference with 7 points heading into Thursdays home match with rivals N.Y. Red Bulls.
The Red Bulls and Captain Thierry Henry are currently in the top spot of the Eastern Conference so this will be a big match to see if Davies and the Red and Black are "for real".

Great Time of Year to Take in Some High School Sports
The high school soccer seasons are warming up as well. The Chantilly High girls team, just two seasons removed from its 2009 region title, has upcoming road games at respected opponents Lake Braddock on Monday, April 11 and cross-town rival Westfield High on Thursday, April 28. One of the top cross-town rivals anywhere is in the McLean-area where boys' teams McLean and Langley will be prepping for region title runs when they meet on Tuesday, May 3 at McLean High School in a late-season affair. The two squads met in last year's Liberty District title game with the Highlanders coming out victorious. Full Article: Great Time of Year to Take in Some High School Sports

In Tax Debate, Lessons from Ronaldinho and Beckham
Economists study European soccer stars to understand how the wealthy respond to tax increases and what states should do as a result.
By Lindsey McCormack
How high can you tax the rich before they decide to pack up and move somewhere cheaper? For states teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, this is no theoretical question. Set taxes too low, and you miss out on valuable revenue — set them too high, and your powerhouse workers might move away.

Guest Post - 2011 WPS Draft Pick, Sinnead Farrelly, Philidelphia Independence
Sinead Farrelly has been preparing for the upcoming 2011 WPS season with the Philidelphia Independence.
Farrelly was selected by the Philadelphia Independence as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 WPS Draft, is a member of the U-23 National Team, and played soccer for the University of Virginia.

Preseason is almost over; it’s only been 5 weeks but its felt like about 5 months. Training has been really good- I’ve learned so much already in this past month or so.
The girls are so welcoming and it’s been so easy to mesh in with the team. Our schedule is pretty hectic between two-a-days and what not but we always make the best out of it.
Besides hanging out and training, we also got to go on a team tour to Philadelphia. We took a big bus, each seat accompanied with a philly soft pretzel and water. Our first stop was the famous Pat's cheesesteak for some lunch. The cheesesteaks were of course amazing, but I was full for like 8 hours afterwards. Then we headed to the art museum and took pictures of the Rocky statue as well as raced up the steps! We tried to take pictures of us jumping off the steps but the timing never ever worked out.
Next we stopped by LOVE Park before we headed to the channel 3 news building. They took us on a tour of the building and we got to go in the actual news room where they do all the reports and the weather. We got to stand in front of the green screen that most newscasters do when reading the weather and got to pretend to report the conditions for the next couple of days. We also got to meet the sportscaster and weather woman for channel 3 news, it was awesome and the people there were super nice.
For dinner we headed to a place in the Italian market for some chicken parmesan, lasagna, and spaghetti and meatballs. The food was delicious and the Italian market was really cool as well. It was nighttime so everything was closed, but it’s pretty much an outside market down an entire street where they roast food, sell items, and do fun activities. The owner of the restaurant invited us back during the second weekend of May which is the Italian market festival which will be really fun!
Other than that, we've been making our own fun in the locker room and our lounge and just getting to know each other better. Our first game of the season is this Sunday so everyone is really excited! We play Sky Blue in New Jersey and hoping to come out with a win to start the season off right.
Pretty much I’m loving life and getting to play soccer everyday and hang out with my family and friends so it’s been a dream come true.
