Charity Battle of the Sexes to benefit Power Wheelchair Soccer

Virginia Beach, Virginia - The Virginia Beach Piranhas and AllFirst LLC, Industrial General Contractors are pleased to announce a battle of the soccer sexes on April 22 when the W-League Piranhas will take on the AllFirst men's squad in a charity match at the Sportsplex at 7 p.m. Proceeds of the match will benefit the Tidewater Piranhas Power Wheelchair Soccer team. Tickets are $10 at the gate and available for purchase on the Piranhas web site. The Tidewater team will use the proceeds to travel to the United States Power Soccer Association's Champion's Cup in Minneapolis, June 23-25.

The event will also feature a pre-game free children's soccer clinic beginning at 6 p.m. Concessions will feature a special which includes a hot dog, hamburger or barbeque plus chips, soda or water all for $5.

"We are happy to do whatever we can to support the Power Soccer team's efforts to raise money for their trip to Minnesota," said Piranhas' president Marcie Laumann. "As you can imagine, it is a significant expense for these families to be able to make this trip. We want to thank our good friends at Allfirst Construction for their assistance."
Allfirst was established in March of 2000 and the soccer team began playing soccer as "Locals Only." The current Allfirst team is composed of Allfirst employees, customers and friends and the team has played together in Churchland, Yorktown, the Virginia Beach Fieldhouse, the Virginia Beach Sand Soccer Tournament and plays in both the Adult and over 30's leagues.
"Wendy Waddell, the head coach of the W-League Piranhas has played on our men's team for several years and has been a great asset in bringing our skill level up to what it is now," said James Templeton, Vice President of Allfirst. "A few years ago Wendy came to us and asked Allfirst to scrimmage the Piranhas. It's been fun every year and we look forward to it. This year we agreed to do a fund raiser for Power Soccer but only two teams will win! Allfirst and the Tidewater Piranhas Power Wheelchair team!!!!"

Chris Mulholland, the founder and Commissioner of the Virginia Power Soccer Association (VPSA) and the father of a Power Wheelchair athlete is excited about the upcoming match.

"We are so grateful to Marcie Laumann and the Piranhas for their incredible support to our sport," he said. "Power soccer is the first - and only - competitive team sport for power chair users. We like to call it a combination of soccer and NASCAR. You won't experience any other soccer game where you'll hear squealing tires and metal hitting metal!"
