D.C. United to face Revolution for U.S. Open Cup play-in game

Washington, D.C. (April 6, 2011) - Following a victory tonight over the Philadelphia Union, D.C. United today announced details for a second U.S. Open Cup play-in game against the New England Revolution. The Black-and-Red will play host to the Revolution on Tuesday, April 26 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, MD. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.

Tickets are now on sale via the D.C. United front office. D.C. United plan holders (full season, 10-game and flex) will be able to purchase $16 tickets in advance or for $20 on the day of the game. Full Season Ticket Holders will also have access to reserved midfield seating by showing their 2011 Season Ticket Holder membership card the day of the game. The general public will be able to purchase tickets in advance for $20 or for $25 on the day of the game.

D.C. United will host the play-in game versus New England by virtue of winning a coin toss on Monday, February 28 at the MLS offices in New York City. United hosted the Union, also awarded by virtue of a coin toss. A win against New England would see United play on the road versus the winner of tonight’s Sporting Kansas City-Houston Dynamo for the right to join the U.S. Open Cup proper. The road game would be the first for the Black-and-Red in Open Cup competition (including MLS play-in qualifiers and the tournament proper) since July 11, 2007, when the Black-and-Red fell to the Harrisburg City Islanders 1-0 in Landisville, PA.

United has twice won the U.S. Open Cup, in 1996 and again in 2008. Last year, DC made it to the Open Cup semifinals before falling 2-1 to the Columbus Crew at RFK Stadium.
