CUFC Announce Season 2013/2014 Travel Programs and Tryouts
Chesterfield United FC is proud to announce its 2013/2014 travel programming and tryouts. Chesterfield United offers several levels of travel soccer for boys and girls ages 8 - 19. U9 CDP Travel, ASL Academy Jr teams U10-U13, Premier Teams U10-U18 and ASL Academy Teams U14-U18 are described in detail below. These divisions allow for the players to develop at their own pace and to ensure that players receive the most appropriate training for their developing skill level. Tryouts to make our travel teams occur in April and May.

U14-U18 ASL Academy (ELITE BOYS/GIRLS) – ASL Academy teams will compete in the Atlantic Soccer League which provides highly competitive games and allows for maximum amount of training in between events. ASL Academy teams will enhance their development starting in the fall by practicing three times a week on a new 9/10 month season (High School teams U15-U18 will be able to play high school and train August – March). ASL Academy teams will train 2 times a week during the winter starting in January going through February at the state of art complex, River City Sportsplex. Teams will now compete in 3 ASL events, Ultimate Cup and one other event determined by the Directors of Coaching. In the 2011-2012 season of the ASL, Chesterfield United sent over 60% of its U18 Boys players to play in college, and in the 2012-13 season 8 players should be going on to play at the next level collegiately.
ASL Academy teams represent the most competitive teams offered by Chesterfield United FC. The ASL teams will select the top players in each age group beginning at U13. Our ASL teams compete in the ASL Atlantic Soccer League (U15-U18 Boys), and the newly formed Virginia Premier League.
The primary goal of the program is to create the ‘elite’ player that will be able to compete at the highest level. The program will be intensive and require the player’s full commitment. It is highly advised that players do not participate in extra activities. The SWFC Academy program will also hold players to Educational standards as each player will be expected to have quarterly meetings with the Academy Director to discuss expectations, goal setting, and current grades. The SWFC Academy will take part in team building activities throughout the season which will increase the development of each individual and group. Teams will train 4-5 times a week and participate in the VA Premier League and Atlantic Soccer League.
U10-U12 ASL Jr Academy (ELITE BOYS/GIRLS) – ASL Jr Academy teams (2 teams in each age group - BLUE/WHITE) will enhance their development starting in the fall by practicing three times a week on a 9/10 month season. The concept behind the ASL Jr Academy is that players and teams will be preparing themselves for the challenges of the Atlantic Soccer League which they will begin play at the age of U13s. The ASL Jr Academy teams will also play a fall and spring season in ADSL or the newly formed VA Premier League. ASL Jr Academy teams will train 2 times a week during the winter starting in January going through February at the state of art complex River City Sportsplex. Selected teams will compete in nationally recognized events such as Norcross (GA), Jefferson Cup (VA), Ultimate Cup (VA), CASL (NC) as well as supporting local tournaments.
The program’s focus is not on winning but on developing each player to his or her fullest potential and preparing the players for success in the future in the ASL. The program also includes Goalkeeper Training Sessions with our Director of Goalkeeping, Technical Training nights and age specific skills training.
U10 – U18 Premier Teams (CLASSIC BOYS/GIRLS)- Premier teams will also enhance player and team development by training twice a week, and have an extra training session with the ASL Jr Academy/ ASL Academy teams periodically throughout the year. This will ensure that Directors and Coaches continue to monitor the development of every player in each age group. Specific dates for these extra training sessions will be released before the beginning of each season. Optional Winter training sessions will also still be a part of our Premier teams travel program and that schedule will be released half way through the Fall 2013 season. Premier teams will compete in ADSL or VSL league fixtures and play in 4 tournaments throughout the year.
PREMIER teams are generally comprised of U10-U18 players. The Premier Travel program provides a competitive environment that falls just under the level of our ASL Academy and ASL Jr Academy teams. The purpose of these teams is to provide an environment for like-ability players to develop and compete. Teams practice twice per week with games on the weekend. It is the focus of the Premier teams to develop these players to their fullest soccer potential so that player movement may be acheived to the PUMA team. The program also includes UT2 United Technical Training, Goalkeeper clinics, Speed and Agility Training, and age specific skills training.
U9 CDP Travel (Competitive Development Program)- The U9 CDP travel program is a ground breaking program for Chesterfield United as it will see the club modeling the US Soccer Development Guidelines. U9 teams will train together as a pool and then play 5v5 games on the weekend against other local clubs supporting these guidelines. They will also play in 1 tournament per season (1 fall/1 Spring) and compete in several development festival. U9 teams will train 2 times a week at Ironbridge and Sportsquest with a third free session on Friday evenings at UT2 Training. During the winter break U9 players will meet once a week as part of their fees during January and February.
The CDP U9 Travel Program emphasizes technical and physical development while encouraging individual creativity and expression. The concept of the program is to create a bigger pool of players that will train together on a consistent basis. This pool of players would be split up into teams not based on ability. Talent is equally distributed through the teams in a particular age group thus reiterating the fact that development is the main focus. Quality training and creating a healthy learning environment is our goal.
