UMW Men Beat Kean University, 2-1


Senior Matt Poole scored the game winning goal with 50 seconds left in the first overtime period to lift the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Kean University on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 8-5 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, UMW scored a memorable goal to take the lead, as junior Tommy Sangbouasy scored as his corner kick caromed off the far post and into goal at 55:49. Kean tied the score at 72:56 on a Dominic DeLillo score off a deflection.

Poole scored the game winner with 50 seconds left in the first extra frame. The Eagles led in shots, 20-14, and had 13 corner kicks to two for the visitors. Tyler Back had five saves for the Eagles, while John Londono had seven stops for Kean.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday night when they visit Dickinson College at 7:00 p.m.

Jason Kilby Named New Head Men's Soccer Coach at Mary Washington

Jason Kilby has been named as the new Head Men's Soccer Coach at the Universty of Mary Washington, according to Director of Athletics Dr. Ed Hegmann. Kilby has led North Carolina Wesleyan College as one of the top programs in the region for the past nine years. He is a native of nearby Culpeper, Va., and returns to the Fredericksburg area as the coach of the Eagles, replacing Roy Gordon, who will retire after 34 seasons as the only head coach in program history.
