Jason Kilby Named New Head Men's Soccer Coach at Mary Washington

Jason Kilby has been named as the new Head Men's Soccer Coach at the Universty of Mary Washington, according to Director of Athletics Dr. Ed Hegmann. Kilby has led North Carolina Wesleyan College as one of the top programs in the region for the past nine years. He is a native of nearby Culpeper, Va., and returns to the Fredericksburg area as the coach of the Eagles, replacing Roy Gordon, who will retire after 34 seasons as the only head coach in program history.

"I am extremely excited about this new opportunity", said Kilby on Monday. "Mary Washington has a great reputation as a great academic school with a top athletic program, and I am excited for this new challenge."

In nine years at NC Wesleyan, Kilby led the Battling Bishops to a 120-43-13 overall record with a 43-7-6 mark in USA South Conference play. Kilby's impressive tenure at NCWC included back-to-back undefeated USA South Conference Championships in '04 and '05, as well as back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in '06 and '07.

In 2008, Kilby led NCWC to a 16-3-2 overall record, the USA South Tournament Championship, and the program's third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. His best season at the helm of the program, however, came in 2007 when he turned in a program-best 18-2-0 record, an undefeated regular season, an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16, and a #2 national ranking for most of the fall.

"We're very excited to have Jason join our staff", said Hegmann. "Our players indicated they thought he'd be a great choice, and are equally excited. We look forward to him maintaining the high level of success that Roy has established over the past thirty-plus years."

Kilby spent four years as an assistant coach at Frostburg State University and was credited with much of his alma mater’s success. FSU won the AMCC Regular Season Championship each of those years and won the AMCC Tournament three times. FSU posted an overall record of 56-25-1 during his tenure on the coaching staff.

Professional soccer is also an accomplishment for Kilby as he has played in the USL and the USISL, as well as the Moseley Football Club in London, England. He currently holds a NSCAA Advanced National License, as well as a USSF “B” License.
