Cavalier defender was a second-team all-region pick in 2011

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia defender Hunter Jumper (Sr., Plano, Texas) was selected by the Chicago Fire Thursday in the second round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, held in Kansas City, Mo. Jumper was picked with the 28th overall selection and the ninth in the second round.

Jumper started 17 games this season and finished his UVa career with 79 starts. He started 15 of his 17 games this year at left back, scoring a pair of goals and adding four assists.

Jumper was a 2011 NSCAA Second Team All-Region selection. He was named to Capital One Academic All-District First Team in 2011 and earned a spot on the ACC All-Tournament Team for the third straight year. Jumper also is a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection and this year was one of 30 nominees for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for men's soccer.

Prior to his time at Virginia, Jumper played for the U.S. U-17 and U-18 national teams.
Jumper becomes the 43rd former Cavalier to move on to play in MLS. UVa ranks second to UCLA in producing the most MLS players all-time.

Brian Span of UVA to sign with Swedish Top Flight Team, Djurgarded IF

The blog that follows UVA sports, Streaking the Lawn, is reporting that Virginia sophomore winger Brian "Cobi" Span signed a contract today with Djurgarden IF of Sweden's top flight, Allsvenkan.

According to Ives Galarcap of Fox Soccer, Span is ranked as the 7th best player on the 2012 MLS Draft Big Board. Joining Span on the Big Board from UVA are Hunter Jumper, listed as the 21st best player available for the upcoming 2012 MLS Draft and Cavalier teammate Brian Ownby, ranked 23rd.

The 2012 MLS SuperDraft is scheduled for January 12 in Kansas City Convention Center. The first round of the SuperDraft will be broadcast by ESPN2 beginning at noon ET.

Virginia senior defender Hunter Jumper Named Candidate for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

The University of Virginia announced that senior defender Hunter Jumper has been named one of 30 candidates for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for Men's Soccer, as announced Wednesday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
Jumper has started 62 games during his three seasons with the Cavaliers. He has three goals and nine assists for 15 points. A three-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree, Jumper also has been named to each of the last two ACC All-Tournament teams. He was selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District second team in 2010.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award® winner during the 2011 NCAA Men's and College Cup championship, Dec. 9-11, in Hoover, Ala.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

Ranked 22nd in the preseason NSCAA poll, the Cavaliers will play their final exhibition at 5 p.m. Friday (Aug. 19) against George Mason. UVa kicks off its regular season Aug. 26 against West Virginia in Germantown, Md.

Hunter Jumper Named To All-ACC Academic Men’s Soccer Team


CHARLOTTESVILLE – For the third-consecutive season, Virginia junior midfielder Hunter Jumper (Plano, Texas) has been named to the All-ACC Academic Men’s Soccer Team.

In 2010, Jumper started 19 games for UVa and scored one goal – the game-winner against Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. A psychology major, Jumper was named to the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN Men’s Soccer Academic All-District second team.
