D.C. United Carolina Challenge Cup Recap

D.C. United returned to Charleston, SC to compete in the 2012 Carolina Challenge Cup this past weekend. United are the current defending champions of the preseason tournament having won the two previous cups.

Apperently a return trip to South Carolina was just what the team needed as the Black and Red picked up their first preseason win and new Designated Player, Hamdi Salihi, scored a beautiful goal in the match against the Chicago Fire. Fans, front office members, and Head Coach Ben Olsen will surely be hoping to see more of this type of production from the Albanian that the team was able to sign this offseason while competing against Scottish football club Celtic who also was interested in adding Salihi to their club.

Up next for United in Carolina Cup play is a match against hometown Charleston Battery on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. D.C. will finish up tournament play Saturday against the Columbus Crew at 5:00 p.m. The games will be streamed live on dcunited.com for those who want to watch.
