Williamsburg, Va. - William and Mary Tribe head women's soccer coach John Daly will coach the Region One (East) U-17 team participating in the 2011 Kuban Spring Soccer Tournament. The tournament will take place in Sochi, Russia, which will also be the host city for the 2014 Olympics and the 2018 World Cup.
This will be the fourth time that Daly has coached a Region One team in international competition, as the long-time Tribe leader has also led squads in in tournaments in Holland, Italy, and Ireland. The 2011 tournament in Sochi will run from March 4-16. Other U-17 programs competing at the tournament include teams from DPR Korea, Japan, China, Turkey, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Slovakia, and Estonia.
During his 24 years at William and Mary, Daly has cemented himself as one of the finest coaches in the country, leading the Tribe to an NCAA-record 29th winning season in 2010. Amongst his peers, Daly by all measures ranks as one of the top 20 coaches in NCAA history. When the College defeated Delaware in double-overtime on Oct. 3, 2008, Daly became just the fourth women's soccer coach in NCAA Division I history to win 300 games all with the same school. All told, Daly is the ninth coach in Division I to accomplish the remarkable feat of 300 victories and the 19th across all divisions in the NCAA.
For his career, Daly has posted an incredible record of 330-137-39 (.691) over his 24 years, including a 114-28-12 (.779) in CAA play. All told, Daly has guided the College to 20 NCAA Tournament appearances.
