2011 FPYC Patriot Cup a Success

2011 FPYC Patriot CupThis past weekend my U9 girls team participated in their first ever travel soccer tournament, the 2011 FPYC Patriot Cup.

The Patriot Cup was touted as a great pre-season warm-up tournament due to several features:
  • All teams played four games.
  • No Monday games.
  • Full refunds where offered in the event of cancellation due to weather or field conditions.
  • Artificial turf fields at many of the FFX City and County parks.
From my experience with my U9 girls the tournament lived up to its billing. The turf fields where a great plus, especially on Saturday as a storm came through and caused some games to be delayed until it passed. Although a few games where shortened the tournament was able to proceed and we were able to get our games in as planned.

As is often the case with the weather in Virginia, Sunday saw the opposite of rain as the temperature rose to above 90 degrees and our players had to contend with the heat in our early afternoon match. My four year old son also filled in as my "Assistant Coach" on Sunday and had a great time cheering on his new "friends".

I was a very proud coach as my team finished up a great first tournament with a second place overall finish against some great competition and recieved the first of hopefully many well deserved trophies.
