The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team used the
strength of two second half goals in defeating Catholic University, 2-0,
on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the
season.
After a scoreless first half, UMW scored at 47:54 on a penalty kick from freshman
Adrian Newcomb. The Eagles provided a last-minute goal for the third time in three games, today's coming as an insurance tally from freshman
Jessica Bednarcik at 89:18.
"It was a tale of two halfs", said UMW head coach Corey Hewson. "In
the second half we had much better possessions and capitalized on our
opportunities."
The Eagles were outshot, 14-5, and Catholic led in corner kicks, 2-1. UMW sophomore
Charlotte Owens made seven saves for the Eagles, while Lexi Halpern had two stops for CUA.
