Tribe Women face Villanova, Seton Hall this weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women's soccer team hits the road this weekend, taking its three-match winning streak into Philadelphia, Pa., for a weekend tournament hosted at Villanova.  On Friday, Sept. 7, the Tribe will face off against tournament host Villanova at 11 a.m.  W&M will conclude its trip versus Seton Hall on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 1:30 p.m.  Fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live stats.  Live video of the Villanova match will be streamed online courtesy of Villanova Athletics for a fee of $9.95.

Scouting the Tribe
Last week, the Green and Gold posted victories over Richmond, 3-0, and Auburn, 2-0, improving its record to 3-2 on the season.  Heading into the match against Villanova, the Tribe is riding a three-game winning-streak, outscoring its opponents, 9-0, over that stretch.   Senior Mallory Schaffer leads W&M with nine points, coming on a team-high four goals and one assist.  Classmate Cortlyn Bristol has netted two goals with a pair of assists, while junior Dani Rutter has registered two scores and one helper.  Freshman keeper Caroline Casey continues to impress, as the Chesapeake, Va., native recorded consecutive shutouts over Richmond and Auburn.

Scouting the Wildcats
Villanova opened the 2012 season in style, defeating American, 2-0.  In their next contest, the Wildcats played No.13 Maryland to a scoreless draw.  However, Villanova has dropped three out of its last four, as it plays hosts to the Tribe with a record of 1-3-2.  For the year, senior Heidi Sabatura leads the Wildcats attack with one goal and two assists.  Sophomore Stephanie Myers has netted a score and an assist, while freshman Rhea Barghash has tallied one goal.

Scouting the Pirates
Seton Hall comes into this weekend carrying a ledger of 5-1.  The Pirates have posted victories over Long Island (2-0), Iona (1-0), Leigh (2-0), Monmouth (3-0) and Delaware (2-1).  In its lone setback, Seton Hall fell at Army, 1-0, on Sept. 3.  Before facing the Tribe on Sunday, Sept. 9, the Pirates will match up against La Salle on Friday, Sept. 7.  Leading the SHU attack is  junior Ashley Clarke, who has tallied two goals and three assists, while classmate Brittney Albrecht has netted a goal to go along with two assists.

News and Notes:
- With the Tribe's, 2-0, victory over Auburn on Sunday, Sept. 2, head coach John Daly became just the seventh coach in Division I history to record 350 career wins.  All of Daly's 350 career victories have come at the College.  Daly's historic 300th win came in the 2008 season, as W&M defeated Delaware, 2-1, in double overtime.  For his career, Daly owns a record of 350-142-42.   

- On Monday, Sept. 3, senior midfielder Mallory Schaffer was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week, after finishing the week with two goals and one assist.  Against Richmond, she netted the Tribe's third goal of the evening to go along with an assist.  At Auburn, Schaffer connected on the game-winner in the 29th minute.  it was the Allison Park, Pa., native's third Player of the Week distinction of her career.

- In a series that dates back to 1988, the College owns a 4-0-1 series advantage over Villanova.  Last season, W&M played the Wildcats to a 2-2 draw at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.   In its only meeting against Seton Hall, the Tribe defeated the Pirates, 3-0, in Williamsburg during the 2000 campaign. 

- When the College and Villanova square off on Friday morning, it will mark the Wildcats' third consecutive match against an opponent from the state of Virginia.  Last weekend, Villanova traveled to Richmond, Va., competing against Richmond and VCU.  The Wildcats dropped a 3-1 decision to Richmond, before playing VCU to a 1-1 draw.
