Virginia Beach Piranhas take on resort city's name

Virginia Beach, Virginia - The Hampton Roads Piranhas have been rechristened the Virginia Beach Piranhas, beginning in the May 2011 season.  Playing in the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, their new moniker affirms and promotes the teams' proud roots in the City.

"We are excited to have the Virginia Beach Piranhas here in our home town," said Ron Kuhlman, Vice President of Tourism Marketing and Sales for the Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau. "They are a great organization and we are looking forward to a very successful inaugural 'Virginia Beach' season this year."

"The Piranhas have had  a great longstanding relationship with Virginia Beach and are very happy to reflect our City in our team name," said Piranhas president Marcie Laumann. "Changing our name also tells our fans and the world exactly where the Piranhas play and where we call home!"

Both the W-League Piranhas and the PDL Piranhas will kick off their 2011 seasons in May at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Both teams' schedules will be released this week, subject to official release of the final schedules by United Soccer Leagues.
