U.S. Women's National Team face Mexico Sept. 3 AT RFK Stadium

CHICAGO (July 11, 2013) - The U.S. Women's National Team will return to action on Sept. 3 when it takes on Mexico at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The international match will be the first for the USA following the conclusion of the National Women's Soccer League season, which will culminate with the championship game on Saturday, Aug. 31. 

The match at the home of Major League Soccer's D.C. United will kick off at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1. Fans will be able to follow along on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and on Twitter at ussoccer_wnt. The meeting between the two regional rivals in the nation's capital will mark the first international soccer match on the new FOX Sports 1, America's new sports network, which is expected to be available in more than 90 million homes when it launches on Aug. 17.

"This event will only bring the players together for a few days, but as always, we relish the opportunity to play an international match," said U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni. "Many of the U.S. and Mexican players will be coming right out of their club seasons, so everyone should be fit. We know we will probably face Mexico in World Cup qualifying so it's good to see them before that tournament. It's also a positive to get in a match before we give our players a bit of a break in advance of the rest of our fall activity."
  

Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. ET through ussoccer.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 and at all Ticketmaster ticket centers throughout the Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia area (including many Walmart locations). The game will feature many NWSL players on both teams as the USA and Mexico will meet for the first time since Jan. 24, 2012, a 4-0 U.S. victory during group play at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Vancouver, B.C. Carli Lloyd registered her first career hat trick in that match and Heather O'Reilly added a goal as the Americans clinched a berth in the semifinal with the win.

FOX Soccer will begin broadcasting NWSL games this coming weekend to kick-off exclusive coverage of nine total games, featuring six regular season matches and all three playoff games, including the title match on Aug. 31. FOX Soccer will televise one game per week over the final six weeks of the season with each club appearing at least once on national television leading up to the NWSL Playoffs.

The first national televised match is this Sunday, July 14 and features Seattle Reign FC hosting the Washington Spirit at 8:30 p.m. ET at the Moda Health Pitch at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash.


FOX Sports 1, which will broadcast the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, will also show the CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament that will take place at the end of 2014 at a site and dates that have yet to be determined.
Additional Notes:

• The U.S. team, which is ranked No. 1 in the latest FIFA Women's World Rankings, is 9-0-2 in 2013 and has scored 36 goals while allowing eight.
• Mexico is the third-ranked team in CONCACAF and ranked 24^th in the world. With 3.5 berths (in addition to host Canada) available to the CONCACAF region for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada, Mexico is a favorite to qualify for the tournament.
• The USA-Mexico clash will be the first match in Washington, D.C., for the U.S. women in more than five years. The USA last played at RFK Stadium on May 10, 2008, in a 6-2 thrashing of Canada.
• It will be the USA's eighth all-time match at RFK Stadium, and the USA has never lost a game at the historic venue going back to its first visit in 1995. The USA's streak at RFK Stadium includes the opening game of the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, a 3-1 victory against Sweden.
• Abby Wambach leads the USA in scoring this year following her four-goal performance against Korea Republic on June 20 that gave her eight for the year and moved her past Mia Hamm as the world's all-time leader in international goals with 160.
• Both Alex Morgan and Christen Press have six goals for the USA this year.
• Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux and Lauren Cheney are tied for the team lead in assists in 2013 with four apiece.
• The USA has dominated the all-time series against Mexico, holding a 26-1-1 record, but the last three matches have been one-goal affairs, including a 2-1 loss for the USA on Nov. 5, 2010, during 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying in Cancun, Mexico, a setback that forced the USA into the third-place match of that tournament (which it won) and into a two-game playoff against Italy that the Americans took 2-0 on aggregate.
• This will be the second match in 2013 for the USA against a CONCACAF foe following the 3-0 victory against Canada on June 2 in Toronto. The USA has played seven matches against European teams and three matches against Asian teams so far this year.
