The South Region’s No. 2
seed earned its first-ever playoff win against third-seeded Jacksonville United
FC on Saturday night at Sports Backers Stadium. It wasn’t easy though, as it
had to score three times in the final six minutes of regulation to earn a hard-fought
5-3 victory.
RVA FC vs. Jacksonville United FC NPSL Playoff |
RVA FC coach Grover Gibson
said his balanced roster has allowed him to have confidence in whatever players
he puts on the field, and let’s him make full use of the league’s substitution
rules, especially to keep the pressure on late in tight games like this.
“It’s an advantage with the NPSL that we have the ability to sub everyone, simply because of the fact that we have a very deep and talented roster,” Gibson said. He added about his team’s fitness level: “It also pays off that, in games like this, we have fresh legs continually coming on.”
