UVA announce 2013-14 recruiting class, rated fifth nationally

Class rated fifth nationally by Top Drawer Soccer

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer program announced today its 2013-14 recruiting class. Ranked fifth-best nationally by Top Drawer Soccer, the standout class includes three of the top 15-rated recruits in the country, including two of the top five. 

The 2013-14 class includes:
Paolo Aguilar (Guatemala City, Guatemala/The Pendleton School)
Jordan Allen (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas)
Nicko Corriveau (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga)
Luc Fatton (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle)
Patrick Foss (South Riding, Va./U.S. Soccer Residency)
Hayes Fountain (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle)
Riggs Lennon (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep)
Cole Moffatt (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola)
Wesley Suggs (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic)
Sheldon Sullivan (Stafford, Va./North Stafford)

“We are excited to welcome this class to Virginia,” Virginia head coach George Gelnovatch said. “We believe that the members of this class are very talented and are a great fit for our program. We’re looking forward to them arriving and joining our team for the upcoming season.”

The student-athletes join the Virginia program which has won six national championships and 15 ACC titles. UVa has appeared in 32-consecutive NCAA tournaments - the longest current streak in the nation. The Cavaliers also lose only one starter from a young 2012 side which went 10-7-4 and reached the semifinals of the ACC tournament and the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Following are brief bios on each of the signees.

Paolo Aguilar, Midfielder 
Guatemala City, Guatemala/The Pendleton School
• No. 64 recruit in the Top Drawer Soccer rankings
• No. 2-ranked player in Florida by Top Drawer Soccer
• No. 32-ranked midfielder in nation according to Top Drawer Soccer
• Earned IMG Soccer Academy’s Most Valuable Player Award for 2011-12
• Played for U.S. U15 National Team in 2009-10
• Member of IMG’s U16 and U18 teams all four years of high school
• His two older siblings each attended UVa

Jordan Allen, Midfielder
Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas HS
• No. 3-rated national recruit by College Soccer News
• No. 4-rated national recruit by Top Drawer Soccer
• Current member of U.S. U18 National Team
• Also has spent time U.S. U14, U15 and U17 National teams
• Has competed for U18 National Team in international tournaments in Portugal and the Netherlands
• Named USSDA U15/U16 Western Conference Player of the Year
• Three-time U.S. Development Academy Player of the Week
• Twice named to U.S Development Academy Winter Showcase ‘Select Team’

Nicko Corriveau, Forward
Potomac, Md./Gonzaga HS
• No. 2-rated recruit by College Soccer News
• No. 29-rated recruit by Top Drawer Soccer
• Competed on U.S. U14, U15 and U16 national teams as well as U17 residency program in Florida
• Played for Bethesda SC for eight years
• Named an NSCAA All-American and High School All-American
• While at Gonzaga HS, he earned WCAC Player of the Year honors 
• Also named Washington Post’s 2012 All-Met Player of the Year

Luc Fatton, Midfielder
Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle HS
• Played locally for Albemarle HS
• Led team in goals (11), assists (12) and points (34) last season
• Led team to AAA State Championship
• Starting midfielder for Richmond Strikers Academy for past three years
• Competed with Virginia State ODP from 2007-10
• Member of VCCL Select Team in Spring 2009 and 2010

Hayes Fountain, Midfielder/Defender
Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle HS
• Played locally for Western Albemarle HS
• Currently plays for Richmond Strikers club team
• Played on ODP Virginia State national championship team in 2011 and runner-up side in 2012
• Scored 14 goals and added 12 assists in 45 career games with ODP Virginia State team
• Led Western Albemarle to Jefferson District championship in 2011

Riggs Lennon, Forward/Defender
Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep
• No. 14-rated recruit by College Soccer News
• No. 30-rated recruit by Top Drawer Soccer
• Spent time with U.S. U17 National Team
• Also played Sereno SC, Real Salt Lake club, Brophy Prep 
• First-Team All-American
• Named Gatorade Player of the Year 
• Two-time Arizona High School Player of the Year

Cole Moffatt, Goalkeeper
South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS
• Led Loyola varsity team to three straight Mission League championships
• Has posted 0.42 GAA in 2012-13 (season still ongoing)
• Team currently ranked No. 5 nationally, owns 22-2-2 record
• Named tournament MVP at Trabucco Hills Tournament
• Named Most Valuable Goalkeeper in league last year
• Also played two years with FC Golden State BU19 Premier team
• Voted team MVP in 2011 and team captain in 2012

Wesley Suggs, Defender
Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic HS
• Ranked No. 117 in recruiting rankings by College Soccer News
• 2012 High School All-American at DeMatha Catholic
• Named to 2012 Washington Post All-Met First Team and Gazette All-County Team
• Led team to 2011 High School National Championship as well as 2010 and 2011 WCAC Championships
• Team also was champions of 2010 State Cup
• Also played club soccer with AC Bethesda

Sheldon Sullivan, Defender/Midfielder
Stafford, Va./North Stafford HS
• Three-year starter at North Stafford HS
• Helped team to AAA state championship in 2011
• Two-time all-district honoree
• All-area honoree in 2012
• Was four-year starter on Virginia Youth Soccer Association State ODP team
• Starter on 2011 Virginia ODP national championship squad
• Four-year starter on Region 1 Olympic Development team
• Selected for adidas Super Group All-Star Team at Disney Showcase Inter-Regional Tournament in 2010
• Won 2008 Virginia State Cup and reach state cup finals in 2011 with Prince William Soccer Inc. Courage 94 Red

Patrick Foss, Midfielder
South Riding, Va./U.S. Soccer Residency
• Currently enrolled for spring semester at Virginia and training with the team
• No. 31 recruit in College Soccer News’ rankings
• No. 52 recruit according to Top Drawer Soccer
• Full-time member of U.S. U17 National Team in 2010-11; joined team in preparation for U17 FIFA World Cup
• Played for DC United Youth Academy and reserve team from 2010-12
• Captained DC United’s U18 Academy and named to U.S. Developmental Academy Best XI team in 2012
• Competed in 2011 AEGON/Ajax Youth Cup in Amsterdam and won Golden Boot after scoring four goals in four matches
• Competed for four years with U.S. Olympic Development Program (2005-09)
• Was home schooled through most of high school; as freshman he led Leesburg Christian HS to state championship and led state in scoring (25 goals); named MVP of Virginia state tournament
