Women’s
Soccer Hosts NC State Thursday in ACC Opener
Cavaliers host the Wolfpack
in a nationally televised matchup
CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 5 Virginia women’s soccer team opens ACC play on
Thursday when it hosts NC State. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is 7 p.m., and
the contest will be televised nationally on FOX Soccer Channel.
Tickets are $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission. Group tickets (20 or more) are $4.
The Cavaliers (7-1) enter conference play on a seven-match win streak, their longest since a nine-game win streak in 2004. Last week Virginia posted home wins over George Mason and James Madison to win the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic.
NC State (5-3) travels to Charlottesville after suffering a
3-2 loss at Kansas on Sunday. The loss snapped the Wolfpack’s five-game winning
streak.
Virginia leads the all-time series 21-12-1, including a
10-4-0 record in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers have dominated the series
recently, having won 16 of the last 17 meetings between the teams. The last
three years have seen the matchup decided by one goal, including Virginia’s 1-0
overtime win in Raleigh last year.
The Cavaliers are 16-8-1 in ACC openers, but have won their league opener in eight of the last nine seasons. The only loss in that span was a 2-1 loss at NC State to begin conference play in 2009. Last season Virginia opened ACC play with a 4-1 victory over Maryland.
