Soccer program bans heading the ball

This was too interesting to not share even though it is not happening in Virginia, it could be soon.

A Connecticut news station is reporting that a local Soccer Shots program has banned heading the soccer ball.

Do you think this is the beginning of a new trend towards player safety in youth soccer? Do you agree or disagree with the ban on heading the ball?

  2. I am not sure that it is an overreaction. I just think that "We" are not sure what to do? Like it was said in the report. The age group that is affected by this ban do not really have many (If any) opportunities to head the ball; so these players are not being tought how to do it correctly. They were obviously talking about the rec level because I have seen plenty of "U10 B/G" games where the skill was there on service and heading. The issue is lack of education and instruction and instead of educating and instructing more, "We" run from it and ban the source of more responsibility. SMH lets do it right guys!

  3. If we following the reasoning (if there is any) to ban heading the ball in junior football, then they should also ban playing american football for good in any school athletics program, recreational level competition and backyard fooling around.
