First-year Cavalier forward
receives first national accolade
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s soccer first-year forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s College Player of the Week. Doniak received the national award after scoring three goals in wins over Liberty and UNC Wilmington last week.
Doniak scored twice in Virginia’s 3-0 win over Liberty on
Wednesday and had the game-winning goal in Sunday’s 2-0 win over UNCW. She is
the leading scorer in the ACC with five goals this season.
The first-year forward has come off the bench and scored in each game this year, becoming the first Cavalier to score in the first four games of a season. She has either scored or assisted on seven of Virginia’s 11 goals this year.
Doniak is the third Cavalier to receive the award, joining
Caroline Miller (Sept. 1, 2009) and Meghan Lenczyk (Aug. 23, 2010).
The Cavaliers (3-1) make their first road trip of the regular season next week as they head to Austin for the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational. Virginia meets host Texas on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. CT) in a contest that will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.
