No. 7 UVA Women Away at Texas Friday

Virginia Opens Road Schedule Friday at Texas
Cavaliers and Longhorns play on first day of Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLEThe No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team makes its first road trip of the season this weekend as it heads to Austin, Texas, for the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational. The Cavaliers open the tournament on Friday as they play host Texas at 7:30 p.m. CT (8:30 p.m. ET) and the game will be televised live on the Longhorn Network.

The Cavaliers concluded a season-opening four-game homestand with a 3-1 record. Following a 3-1 loss to No. 8 Penn State in the season opener, Virginia has posted three straight shutout victories over Radford (5-0), Liberty (3-0) and UNC Wilmington (2-0).

Texas enters the weekend with a 2-2 record. The Longhorns split a pair of home games last week, falling 1-0 to NC State on Friday and defeating Toledo 3-0 on Sunday.

Virginia is led offensively by first-year Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.), who leads the ACC with five goals and 12 points. The reigning TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week became the first Cavalier to score in each of the first four games of a season. Sophomore midfielder Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) has added two goals off the bench as six different players have scored a goal for Virginia during the first four games.

Friday’s game is the second all-time meeting between the schools. The Cavaliers downed the Longhorns 4-0 during the 2010 Virginia Nike Soccer Classic in Charlottesville. Current Cavaliers Caroline Miller (Rockville, Md.), Julia Roberts (Frederick, Md.) and Kate Norbo (Roanoke, Va.) all scored against Texas in the meeting two years ago.

The Cavaliers conclude play at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational on Sunday as they meet SMU. Game time is 11 a.m. CT (noon ET) in Austin. The teams have not met in 20 years since Virginia won three of the four previous meetings from 1989-92.
