Chris Saul Signs Pro Contract with Ytterhogdals IK
Chris Saul |
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood
University graduate and four-year letterwinner with the Lancers’ men’s
soccer program Chris Saul of Pasadena, Maryland recently signed a
professional contract to play for Ytterhogdals IK of the Swedish League
(Division 3). Saul played three seasons for Longwood between 2008-11,
appearing in 57 career matches with 33 starts.
“I
am delighted for Chris and for his family,” said Longwood men’s soccer
head coach Jon Atkinson. “This goes to show that if you want something
bad enough and actively pursue your dream, then anything is possible.
This is another feather in the cap for the LU men’s soccer program, the
athletic department and Longwood University in general, as we all played
a part in shaping this young man’s life. We wish Chris well as he
savors international culture in the wonderful country of Sweden.”
The
midfielder traveled to Sweden in late July in order to train under the
direction of Stuart Gibson, the head coach for Umea FC of the Superettan
League (Tier 2). After training for almost two weeks in Umea, Saul
signed a professional contract to play with Ytterhogdals IK this season.
Upon completion of the Ytterhogdals IK schedule, Saul is slated to
return to Umea for a few weeks of additional training before the winter
break.
Saul
has already received interest from several teams who may wish to sign
him for next season pending his performance with Ytterhogdals IK,
according to Atkinson.
