Major League Soccer announced the first of many 2011 season awards today by naming former James Madison University standout C.J. Sapong as the MLS Rookie of the Year for 2011.

Sapong beat out D.C. Uniteds' own Perry Kitchen to win this years award recognizing the leagues best first year player. With five goals and five assists Sapong led all MLS rookies in points. Sapong was the only player for Sporting KC to appear in 34 matches and is the first member of Sporting KC to win the ROY award.
