Virginia College Soccer weekly Re-cap 9/20

A quick re-cap from the past week in the world of college soccer in Virginia:

Tribe Men’s Soccer Opens CAA Play with 1-0 Win at UNCW

The William and Mary Tribe men's soccer team opened up CAA conference play on Saturday night, winning on the road at UNC Wilmington, 1-0.  With the victory, the College evens its record on the season at 3-3 overall, while UNCW falls to 2-4 on the year and to 0-1 in league action.


Tribe’s Katherine Yount Earns National Honor

After helping the William and Mary Tribe women's soccer team post an impressive, 2-0 win over Princeton on September 15, Tribe junior goalkeeper Katherine Yount was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week.  The honor is the first in the career for the Fairfax Station, Virginia, native.

Tribe Women’s Soccer Defeats Princeton, 2-0

The William and Mary Tribe women's soccer team got back to its winning ways on Friday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field, defeating the Princeton Tigers, 2-0.  With the victory, the Tribe improves to 5-1-2 on the season, while Princeton falls to 1-4 on the year.

No. 10 UVA Men fall to No. 19 Charlotte, 2-1

No. 19 Charlotte scored on a penalty kick with 25 seconds remaining in regulation, then struck again in the first minute of overtime to pull out a stunning 2-1 win over the No. 10 Virginia men's soccer team Friday evening at Klöckner Stadium.

No. 14 UVA Women fall to No. 18. Boston College
The No. 14 Virginia women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 18 Boston College in its road opener Sunday at the Newton Soccer Field. The Eagles used a pair of second half goals to improve to 6-0-2 overall (1-0 ACC), while the Cavaliers fell to 7-2-1 (1-1 ACC).



UMW Men's Soccer Tops #20 Salisbury, 2-1

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team scored a pair of goals to open the second half and held on for a 2-1 victory over 20th-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 3-3 on the season, and 1-0 in Capital Athletic Conference action, while the Gulls fall to 4-1-1 and 0-1.

UMW Women's Soccer Falls at Frostburg, 1-0

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Frostburg State University on Sunday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 4-1-1 on the season.



Liberty Scorches Howard, 4-0

Using a relentless, pressuring attack, the Liberty Flames defeated the Howard Bison, 4-0, Friday afternoon at Osborne Stadium. Midfielder Phillip Aseweh netted two goals in the contest, while Timothy Bullock and Uriah Bentick each added a score for the Flames. After Liberty defeated No. 10 Virginia, 2-0, on Tuesday, the Flames have held their opponents without a goal for the second consecutive match.

Liberty Women Tie Elon, Sunday

Looking for its second win of the season on Sunday, the Liberty women's soccer team (1-3-2) instead garnered its second stalemate, playing Elon (2-4-2) to a scoreless tie at Osborne Stadium.



Hokies rally, but fall at 11th-ranked Boston College, 4-3, in overtime
Playing its first road game of the 2011 season, the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team rallied from a two goal halftime deficit to force overtime, but fell to No.11-ranked Boston College, 4-3, tonight at Newton Campus Field. The three goals were a season-high for Tech and were scored by sophomore midfielder David Clemens, sophomore midfielder Jed Prater and freshman midfielder Ben Strong.

Hokies fall to No. 6 Maryland, 2-1, in ACC opener
The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team fell to the No. 6 Maryland Terps, 2-1, in its ACC-opener at Ludwig Field Sunday evening. Sophomore Jazmine Reeves connected on her second goal of the season for the Hokies, as Kelsey Loupee recorded the assist.
