Hope Solo to compete on Dancing with the Stars

Last night ABC TV announced the cast for the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. Guess who was named to participate, none other than USWNT goalkeeper and 2011 Women's World Cup star Hope Solo.

Solo has been a marketing machine since returning this summer from Germany, having already inked deals with Gatorade and Bank of America. There have also been rumors that Solo will be posing nude for ESPN The Magazine.

So, with all this recent publicity you have to wonder is Hope quickly becoming bigger than women's soccer? Is she forging a new path for future generations of women's soccer players in America. And, will any/all of this marketing and self promotion help bring much needed attention to the struggling Women's Professional Soccer league?
