Mia Hamm Foundation 4th Annual Celebrity Soccer Challange in D.C.

Former U.S. Women's national team star and Washington Freedom alumn Mia Hamm along with her husband Nomar Garciaparra are bringing their annual Celebrity Soccer Challange to Washington, D.C.

WHAT:  4th Annual Mia Hamm & Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting the Mia Hamm Foundation & Children's National Medical Center. 

WHO: Soccer Legend Mia Hamm, Baseball Great Nomar Garciaparra invite celebrity friends and soccer greats to join them in soccer challenge to raise funds and awareness for families needing marrow or cord blood transplants. One hundred percent of proceeds benefit the Mia Hamm Foundation & Children's National Medical Center. 




For four years, the Mia Hamm Foundation organized the Garrett Game, an annual soccer exhibition named after Mia’s late brother, Garrett, who died in 1997 from a bone marrow disease. Held in Milwaukee, the funds raised went directly to bone marrow transplant patients and their families. In 2008, the event was re-launched as the Mia Hamm & Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge and found a new home, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.  In 2011, the fourth year of this annual event, the Soccer Challenge will move to Washington D.C. to be played on July 31, 2011 with local celebrities and media personalities scheduled to join Mia and Nomar in a 7 vs. 7 exhibition soccer game. This same weekend, FC Barcelona vs. Manchester United will play at FedEx Field on July 30th and Mia, a global ambassador for FC Barcelona, is proud to support the club’s visit to the U.S.
