W LEAGUE PIRANHAS FACE FREDERICKSBURG IMPACT SATURDAY NIGHT

Virginia Beach, Virginia – Third time is a charm. That’s the theme for the W-League Piranhas as they want to earn their first win in the third game of the 2011 season on Saturday, June 4 against Fredericksburg Impact. The doubleheader at the Sportsplex kicks off with the women’s game at 5.30 p.m.; the PDL team will host Fredericksburg Hotspur at 8 p.m. Gates open at 4.30 p.m. and tickets are $8 and include both games.

W-LEAGUE PIRANHAS (0-2-0)
The team’s talent, commitment and effort were obvious in the first two games, but in each case the scoreboard was not in favor of the Red and White. Two weeks have passed since the 2-1 defeat at home against the Dayton Dutch Lions - a lot of time for head coach Wendy Waddell and her new assistant coach Chris Cullop to make the team gel.
“We had really great practices these past two weeks and the players are very eager to get a win this weekend,” said Waddell. “We feel right now that we have a set formation and are very confident that this will help us have more scoring opportunities.”

Fredericksburg Impact (0-1-0)
Fredericksburg Impact is a newcomer to the United Soccer Leagues. The Impact played one game so far in its debut season, beating Northern Virginia 1-0. The team of head coach Jen Woodie defended well at home against the Majestics, so that an early goal by forward Alex Myers eleven minutes into the game ended up being the game winner.

For this campaign, Woodie recruited a very young team, consisting almost entirely of talented college players from the Fredericksburg region.
