With a tie against reigning MLS Champion Colorado, D.C. United salvaged 1pt. and currently sit 6th in the Eastern Conference only 1pt. behind three other teams - New England, Columbus, and Houston.

Converting on his penalty attempt, Chris Pontius scored his 3rd goal of the 2011 MLS season.

Pontius said:

"I was confident [in taking the penalty], and I knew I had hit [the ball] well. I wasn’t going to try and place it, especially with the way the game was going."

Speaking about United veteran Chris Pontius head coach Ben Olsen had this to say:

"In the second half, he was very good. He is part of a lot of the good things that we do. Physically he is pretty well-rounded, he’s strong; I think he’s getting there. But I still need more numbers from him, he still needs to get more goals and assists for us. "

Up next for united in regular season MLS play is an away game for the Black and Red in Portland, OR versus newcomers the Timbers.

With the logjam of teams trailing Eastern Conference leaders New York Red Bulls, United can not afford to lose out on getting at least 1 point in the match against Portland.
