Girls Super Y ODP Select Teams Announced

TAMPA, Fla. -- United Soccer Leagues unveiled its 2011 Super Y-League Girls Olympic Development Camp select teams on Wednesday, honoring the players in the 94-95 and 96-97 age groups that had standout weeks at the annual SYL ODP National Camps this past weekend at the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The players were chosen from a pool of 200 total players in attendance at the camp by the coaches in attendance under the direction of USL National Technical Director Peter Mellor.

“We were delighted to see the level of talent and dedication the players displayed this weekend,” Mellor said. “We are sure that the lessons they have learned at the outstanding facilities at the IMG Soccer Academy will serve them well as they continue to develop.

“It was also excellent to see the Danielle Fotopoulos here to represent U.S. Soccer; we hope that she saw some players that will be able to contribute to the U.S. National Team Program in the future.”

A trio of Northern Virginia Majestics defenders - Autumn Berry, Madison Smith and Thyla Peterson - were named to the 94-95 Select A team as the Majestics saw five of their players total named to that age group’s select squads. The Washington Freedom’s Marlo Sweatman, who helped her team take the Girls U15 championship at last year’s Super Y-League North American Finals, was also named to the team while teammate Kaila Williams was selected to the B team.

Three teams saw a pair of players named to the 96-97 Select A team, with the finalists from the North American Finals among them. 2010 champions the Northern Virginia Majestics were represented by midfielder Annah Lindberg and forward Jewel Christian, while runner-up the Chicago Fire Juniors – Michigan were represented by defender Tara Lierman and midfielder Isabella Fiorenzo.

Also seeing two players selected to the 96-97 Select A team were the Cleveland Internationals, who had midfielder Shea O’Brien and forward Emily Ogle named to the squad.
