Virginia Beach, Virginia - The W-League Piranhas are pleased to announce the team's first signing for the 2011 season, Lee University senior midfielder, Samantha Hare. She joins the Piranhas subject to USL and USSF approval.
"I couldn't be any more thrilled with the recognition of Sammy (Hare) as an All-American," said Lee head coach Matt Yelton. "She was the most consistent performer on our team all year long and in clutch situations was often the driving force our team needed to spur us on to victory." Another trait of Hare's that coach Yelton mentioned is that "she hates to lose."
Additional honors include being named NSCAA All-Region, First Team All Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), All-SSAC Tournament Team, All SSAC East Tournament Team and National NAIA Tournament MVP, all in her senior year. She was named Second Team All SSAC and NAIA All-American Honorable Mention as a sophomore and Second Team All SSAC as a freshman. Hare red-shirted her junior year due to a knee injury.
"I am very excited to have Samantha join us for the upcoming season," said Piranhas head coach Wendy Waddell. "She is definitely an impact player and will be a great addition to our team. Her proven consistency and 'hate to lose' attitude will provide a great spark to the W-League Piranhas this season."
