MLS Club to participate in SASA’s 2011 St. Patrick’s Day Tournament
– Washington, DC. United announced today plans to sponsor the Stafford Area Soccer Association’s (SASA) 2011 St. Patrick’s Day Tournament. Through this partnership, United will form closer ties to the local soccer community.
As part of the agreement, SASA will be able to provide great benefits to teams playing in the 2011 tournament, including meeting a D.C. United player. Additionally, finalists for each age group will be recognized at a spring D.C. United home match, while all teams in the tournament will have a chance to participate in on-field activities at RFK Stadium. Coaches will also be invited to attend a pre-game “Chalk Talk” with United’s technical staff during a 2011 United home match.
The tournament will be held on March 19-20, 2011 and is one of the top spring pre-season tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic. Last year, 264 boys and girls teams between the ages of 9 and 19 participated in the event. In total, over 12,000 participants, parents, siblings, coaches, volunteers, and spectators attended, making the tournament one of the largest events of the year in Stafford County, VA.
“We're very excited to extend our sponsorship agreement with D.C. United," said SASA Tournament Director Sean Rose. "Their support has been extremely helpful throughout the years and 2011 will be no exception."
SASA will also have a special ticket offer for all tournament teams to United’s 2011 home opener on its official tournament website and will include D.C. United in all tournament promotional materials.
