FASA announces University of Mary Washington Stadium as Home Field for PDL & W-League

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association, which recently unveiled the addition of franchises in both the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League and W-League, is very pleased to announce an agreement with The University of Mary Washington to use their outstanding facility for all USL home games.

"We are incredibly pleased and excited about having our USL home games at such a top-level facility. UMW has one of the finest venues in the region. For our teams to have the privilege of playing on a field of this quality – and our fans to experience the atmosphere and benefits of playing at a professional-level facility is amazing. Visiting teams will look forward to making the trip to Fredericksburg knowing they will be playing at a first class facility," said Pete Cinalli, FASA General Manager and Assistant Coach of the W-League Impact team.

The Fredericksburg Hotspur will play in the PDL, while the Fredericksburg Impact will compete in the W-League. Both teams will play at the UMW Battleground Soccer Stadium on Hanover Street, where games will begin in May of 2011. Head W-League Coach Jen Woodie added "The community has shown that they are excited about the W-League coming to town, I can only imagine what the atmosphere at home games will be like at UMW Battleground Soccer Stadium for us and the Hotspur PDL team". "It’s a tremendous facility," Carl Gray, the head coach of the Hotspur PDL team added "My son played four years at UMW so I know how impressive the field complex is and that it will be perfect for the professional-level talent that will be playing PDL & W-League games there. I could not be happier or more pleased for all of the players and fans."

Cinalli added "The community showed unbelievable support when we had over 300 attend our USL Kickoff event back in September". The enthusiasm to see soccer at the highest level, which will include local home-town favorites as well as players from major colleges throughout the country, has really sparked a ton of excitement. With UMW as our home game facility, we have assured our fan base each game will be an "event to remember"!"
