William & Mary Get Top Seed in Men's CAA Tournament; VCU Seeded Second

RICHMOND, Va. (November 7, 2010) – The field is set for the 2010 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan CAA Men’s Soccer Championship, which will be held November 12 & 14 at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field in Williamsburg, Va.

Semifinal action kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday when second-seeded VCU (8-4-6, 5-2-4 in CAA) takes on third-seeded Hofstra (7-6-5, 5-3-3 in CAA) followed by top-seeded William & Mary (13-3-2, 8-1-2 in CAA) against fourth-seeded Delaware (6-8-3, 5-4-2 in CAA) at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to Sunday’s 1 p.m. championship game.

Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth (ages 2-17). Students from participating institutions will be admitted free with a valid college ID.

The regular-season race in the CAA was one of the most competitive in league history, with three of the four tournament spots not determined until the final week.

Nationally ranked William & Mary has reached the semifinals of the past two CAA Tournaments, but hasn’t won the conference title since 2000. VCU is making its first tournament appearance since 2007 and will be looking for its first CAA championship since 2003. Hofstra, which won three straight CAA championships from 2004-06, returns to the tournament for the first time since 2008. Delaware is making its first-ever trip to the CAA Tournament after reeling off three straight 1-0 victories to end the regular season.
