Multiple players from Virginia clubs invited to U.S. Soccer Training Center

The following D.C. United Academy and Pre-Academy players were invited to the U.S. Soccer Training Center in Germantown, Md., on April 17:

C.J. Sapong on Scoring Winning Goal against D.C. United

On Saturday March 10th in front of a large gathering of family and friends, Manassas, Virginia native and 2011 MLS Rookie of the Year C.J. Sapong of Sporting KC came on as a late game substitute in a scoreless match against D.C. United at RFK Stadium to score the game winning goal. After the match, Virginia Online Soccer News cought up with the former member of local club PWSI, JMU Men's Soccer, and even Super-20 Nationals with D.C. United Youth Academy to discuss the goal. In the audio Minicast below Sapong talks about how it felt to score the game winner against D.C. United ( in the 2012 MLS season opener.

Spotlight on C.J. Sapong, PWSI and JMU Standout

Sporting Kansas City rookie forward, JMU alum, and PWSI product C.J. Sapong is having a great first season in the MLS.

Sapong was selected No. 10 by Sporting K.C. in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft after a college career that saw the Manassas, VA product score 37 goals and tally 21 assists.

So far Sapong has produced 3 goals and 3 assists during the 2011 MLS season.

PWSI host upcoming Soccer Fiesta


Soccer Across America is teaming up with local club, PWSI Courage, to host the upcoming Soccer Fiesta in Woodbridge, VA.





Soccer Across America (formerly known as Soccer Start) is designed to introduce the sport of soccer to youngsters living in communities not yet served by existing clubs and leagues. Focused on making soccer available to lower-income children in underserved communities, Soccer Across America provides soccer training and administrative guidance to players and organizations who might otherwise not be exposed to the sport. Soccer Across America also helps new programs find the funding and equipment to begin and then to expand their activities. In the past several years, US Youth Soccer has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in financial and material support to programs across the United States.

Well even though the 2010 Spring Soccer Season is wrapping up here in Northern Virginia and families are making their summer plans, its already time to think about the 2010 Fall Soccer Season. For many players that means tryouts. Some players will be returning travel players who have played for many years and others will be hoping to join the wonderful, busy, competitive, and sometimes downright crazy world that is Travel Soccer.
